The KENCO fraternity marked the end of the year in a glamorous event; the 2018 Cancer Score Card and Members’ Symposium at the Silver Springs Hotel. The event was graced by the presence of MoH representatives; Dr. Anne Ng’ang’a, Dr. Mary Nyangasi, Lydia Kirikah, Dr. Eunice Gathitu and Dr. Joan Paula Bor. NCDAK chairperson, Dr. Eva Njenga also honored us with her presence. The KENCO Board, Stakeholders, Media, Secretariat and Members were also present.
The event commenced on a good note with presentations from Dr. Anne Ng’ang’a who gave an in depth picture on the Ministry of Health’s response and strategies to the cancer issue. Her presentation was followed by a press statement by KENCO chairman, David Makumi who elaborated on cancer crisis on the road to universal health coverage. Christine Sitati later gave the statistics on media reporting of cancer issues within the year 2018.
The second session was full of fun, laughter and enlightenment. The members got a chance to understand the KENCO communication strategy elaborated by Wangui Kiili, the communications consultant. The advocacy strategy was expounded by the advocacy consultant, Mueni Lundi and highlighted key advocacy priorities for 2019. Christine Sitati representing the KENCO secretariat gave a reflection of year 2018 and a sneak preview of 2019’s activities.
The day was summed up by Anne Kaaria, a motivational speaker, who spoke to the members on beating burn out as cancer advocates. We appreciate all those who supported us by either attending the event or in other unique ways.
